During the TCA presentations on Sunday January 10th, 2010, NBC officials confirmed that J.J. Abrams will be directing the pilot episode of "Undercovers."
While Gerald McRaney and Boris Kodjoe have already been chosen as key cast members, the hunt for J.J. Abrams' new "it girls" is still underway! In the meantime, it looks like the casting directors are now searching to also fill some minor casting holes -- with an emphasis on any actor who can speak fluent Russian!
Boris Kodjoe ("Resident Evil: Afterlife," "Soul Food") has landed the male lead in J.J. Abrams' pilot for NBC's "Undercovers."
McRaney plays their boss, a CIA operative who recruited the couple and serves as the agency's liaison with them.
Sources tell New York Magazine that the underwraps show (co-written by Abrams and Josh Reims, who worked together on Felicity and What About Brian; pilot to be directed by Abrams) is about husband and wife Samantha and Steven, who met as fellow spies, left spookdom to run a catering company, and have now been called back into service.
But, according to one source familiar with the project, Abrams and Co. have been stressing that unlike Mr. and Mrs. Smith, this is a happy, loving, bantering couple who never once even consider killing each other. "They’re as likely to make a marinara sauce together as they are to bug an embassy," said another source who has read the script. Ah, so it's Alias meets Hart to Hart meets Live! With Regis and Kelly! (Warner Brothers TV, which is producing the pilot, did not respond when asked for comment.)

It's official: NBC is in the J.J. Abrams business. The network has closed a deal with Warner Bros. and Abrams' Bad Robot for a spy drama Abrams co-wrote with Josh Reims.
